Ice Out on Wabaskang fast approaching!

Happy Spring to everyone! Though I do have to admit after such a mild winter it’s not quite as exciting when spring “arrives”. It is however, ALWAYS exciting when we hear that the ice is about to go out on Wabaskang! At least a solid two weeks before average ice out, this is certainly good news for us, and for those fishing early with us it means warmer water which should most certainly translate to AGGRESSIVE fish!

It won’t really change our plans much in terms of our arrival to camp which will still be sometime the first week of May. With some bear hunters in opening week there will be a little extra prep, but overall it should be pretty much business as usual. Who knows, maybe even get a little spring turkey hunting in here in Indiana before heading north?

It looks to be another very busy year in camp again and we are definitely looking forward to seeing our friends this summer, both in camp and around the lake. The poultry ban has been lifted this year, so no concerns there. We will have some more updates to share once we have arrived in the area. Not sure where things stand with Buster’s BBQ as I know they had a fire this winter too, but we will be sure to provide some updates on matters such as these once in camp.

Safe travels to those who are heading up this summer. Look forward to seeing you soon!

Peffley's Wilderness Camp is a family owned and operated camp. Dave has been fishing Wabaskang Lake for over 25 years and was previously a guest of this camp for 12 years prior to purchasing the camp in 2005. I am a proud supporter of our military and offer a nice discount during the month of July to our guests who have also served. I have three daughters ranging in ages from 16-21 who spend much of their summer with us in camp and have totally embraced the wilderness experience we offer. They have for years referred to it as the "best summer experience ever".

While rarely necessary on our lake, because I do have a very good working knowledge on how and where to fish on Wabaskang Lake and our portage waters, I will guide groups if asked to. Otherwise, I am always happy to share information with our guests and provide them well marked lake maps so they can start catching fish their first day in camp.

I pride myself on running a very clean and well managed camp with your satisfaction our top priority. Many guests who have fished from this camp for over 20 years, and several more that have fished here for over 30 years and even some over 40 years.
